The objective of the Association is to research & develop a high standard for the breeding and showing of miniature pigs & pet pigs, also to promote and safeguard their interests & health.
The MPPPA has established a set of standards & breeding registries for miniature pigs and pet pigs in Australia. To register a miniature pig they must measure under 60cm at 4 years old and should be under 50cm at one year, DNA tested, identified and kept on an official registry for breeding stock.
With pet pigs becoming more and more popular in Australia, it is necessary to research before purchasing and check with your local council. Every council has different rulings on keeping pigs. Miniature pigs need a suitable sized area to be happy, as they don’t belong in small backyards/townhouses. In Australian today, piglets come in a variety of colours and body types and are born in smaller litter sizes.
Registered miniature pig breeders are available in all states of Australia and:
~ Are committed to the well being of miniature pigs
~ Agree to the high standard of excellence in animal
husbandry set out by the MPPPA
~ Abide by the laws of their state DPI, and
understand each states transport requirements and
identification laws
~ And updated with any new information concerning the
welfare of pigs in Australia.
Piglets purchased from a MPPPA registered breeder are spayed or neutered (de-sexed), vaccinated, wormed & have permanent identification before going to their new homes.
